The guyanas are in the northwest corner of south America touching the Caribbean Sea.  

Several countries make up the Guiane and shield and might be called Guyana/guiane/guyane, so it's important to know which one you are referring to if you want a more specific location

Guyana is a South American country just as Surinam and French Guayana are. They are (if you look at a map) on the top right corner of South America, between venezuela and Brazil. The capital is Georgetown and Guyana is better (or worse!) known as the place where Jim Jones (the so-called prophet) built his own town (Jonestown) and kept thousands of people "prisoners" and at the end, when one of his sons turned him to the police, made them all drink Kool-Aid with Cyanide.
