Question:

Locating info on very old adoptions?

My grandmother was adopted in the 1920s and her adoption was hushhush. She never knew who her real parents were - just several clues and location. We know her biological parents are probably gone, but we want to see if her other family may be out there looking for us. Wondering if anyone can recommend a good site for posting and searching such information? Thanks!:)

  1. You could try ancestry.com as a starting point.  I know that it is possible unless it was an illegal adoption, but you may have to hire an investigator.

  2. Try researching the hospital and surrounding area where she was born. Get to know the locals and spread word of mouth you are looking. My family got adoption news this way. An old hospital nurse spilled the beans of the families involved.

  3. I would go to your local library and ask to search birth/death records.  They could also tell you what other avenues you could take to go ahead with your search.  Most records are open to the public.
