Is the Loch Ness monster real? I found this article and it really turned my head.

So read that and tell me if it made you think about the Loch Ness monster too.

  1. I personally do not believe in the Loch Ness monster. No animal that large could exist in a breeding population in a lake that small with a large population that close for centuries without being caught or otherwise proven real.

EDIT; Yes, the loch is a large lake, one of the largest in Scotland I believe, but it's not large enough to hide an animal that big for centuries. And if it were connected to the sea with subterranean tunnels there would be detectable amounts of sea water in the loch somewhere. I think what people are seeing is what happens when a large bubble of methane gas gets trapped under a section of peat, forcing it to tear loose from the bottom and rapidly rise to the surface.

That's my opinion of it anyway.

  2. the third picture is fake

  3. I believe Nessie is real and there may even be more than one. There is much speculation on how something so large can survive in the loch.

I think the answer to this is that there are underwater tunnels connecting the loch to the ocean which is very close. Just look at any map of the area (I like Google Earth) and you will know what I mean. The creatures come and go as they wish.

    Thanks for the good question.

  4. If you found that article persuasive, I guess me saying, "Bigfoot exists!" would be enough to convince you on that it's real too.

I lived in Scotland for 30 years and I visited Loch Ness several times. It's a lovely area and the lake is indeed very big, but it's a real stretch to believe that a large animal could have lived so close to people for so long without there being real, hard proof that it exists. The photos on that site are rubbish, and the sonar scans occasionally trotted out are equally poor or ambiguous. Why is it, do you think, that there have never been any corpses washed ashore or remains spotted on the bottom of the Loch?

The simple fact is that it is impossible to prove a negative - nobody can prove that Nessie does NOT exist - and there are people with such a poor grasp of logical thinking and so desperate to believe in the weird and the wonderful that they will take take this to mean that Nessie DOES exist. There are also lots of people around who are happy to make a living exploiting the gullible.

As for tunnels from the sea to Loch Ness, that is pure BS. The geology of Scotland was one of the first areas studied when geology became a recognized science. It is very well known and the forces that created and shaped Scotland are very well understood. The existence of tunnels would be contrary to all that is known about Scotland and its geology.

Suggesting that Nessie exists but shoots off through a tunnel to the sea whenever anyone is looking for her is just another way for believers to explain why they cannot provide hard proof that there is a large, unknown species in Loch Ness. One might as well say that the reason she's never seen there is because she flies off in her invisible UFO whenever she detects a human getting close with her radar and sonar equipment.

  5. www.theshadowlands.net

has a good section on this creature.

    check it out.

  6. I'd like to believe that he exist, this world of our is so big and we know so little about it, look at the oceans, there so close and we haven't seen half of them because of pressures so great, we know more about space, and we know at one time we did have dinosaurs so why cant one still be around.
