Lock picking?

i lost my house key and couldnt get into my house one day and decided i'd try learning how to pick the lock. i'm ditzy and will eventually lock myself out again. i've learned the way to do this, i even have the tools. when i do i can only get the lock to turn to the left, which doesnt unlock it. i need it to turn to the right for it to open. is there something i'm missing? or a different trick. its a tumbler lock (kwikset).

Stop turning it to the left. If it only opens when turned to the right...why are you turning it to the left??? If you can turn it to the left..then you should be able to turn it to the right. Make it easy on yourself...get another key made and hide it somewhere. Kind of stupid if you can keep track of your lock picks...why can't you keep track of a key???
