Lockout meetings Adjourned by League, Players' Association until further notice -NHL Update
Fans were looking forward to finally seeing a major improvement in terms of talks being held between the National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association just a few days back, but were disappointed to hear that the two stakeholders failed to make any
significant progress on the day the 2012-2013 regular season was supposed to start.
"I certainly hoped and would have expected we would be in a different place today," Daly said, Thursday, October 11, 2012.
After a meeting on Wednesday with all stakeholders present, the league and labour union failed to make any advancement on the issue of a prevailing lockout. The top executives decided to hold another meeting the following day, but failed to do anything important
again and have adjourned the negotiation process until further notice.
"I would have expected we would have had an agreement," Daly continued. "I would have expected we would have been dropping the puck.”
Business is definitely suffering due to the limitless lockout ever since the previous collective bargaining agreement came to an end on the 15th of the last month. Analysts were expecting talks to go smoothly, but no one could have imagined that
the regular season would be locked out.
Prior to negotiations getting intense, insiders had termed the regular season to be locked out deep into next year and it seems like those predictions are finally coming true as the first two weeks have already been cancelled and the Winter Classic, scheduled
to be held between Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs, may also be on the verge of being annulled.
"This is a bad situation we're in," Daly added. "There is no sense of assurance that we haven't done significant damage to the business, but again I come back to the fact that we wouldn't do this -- knowingly damaging our business -- unless there was a reason
to do it. That suggests there's a pretty significant reason."
Updates and developments, along with another meeting, should be expected sometime next week instead of in the upcoming days since the two stakeholders have not managed to schedule anything as of yet.
