Lockout not having a good effect on Winnipeg Jets -NHL Update
While other franchises might not be taking too much negativity when it comes to the lockout situation prevailing in the National Hockey League (NHL), the Winnipeg Jets are seriously facing a tough time as they looked forward to their second season in a new
city.
Formerly the Atlanta Thrashers, the newly formed Jets in Winnipeg definitely had a spectacular season, not really in terms of performance but overall deliverance to the fans in regards to their wishes and wants. Residents of Winnipeg waited for over 15 years
to get an NHL franchise back in the city, and the wait definitely proved to be worth it.
“We were ecstatic to get back and hit the ground running and we all felt we would be pushing in the right direction to put a better product on the ice here,” Jets’ Blake Wheeler said in an extensive and wide-ranging interview at St. Louis Park Rec Center
on Tuesday afternoon, according to Winnipegsun.com. “To have to delay that and not know when we’re going to get back to it is frustrating. At the end of the day, money rules all, it seems, in this world. The owners) are businessmen, they’re in this to make
money and they see it as an opportunity to take a bigger piece of a bigger pie.”
Wheeler is still in his home tome of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and does not really know when he is going to be back in Canada due to the lockout. In Minneapolis, there are a number of players from the Minnesota Wild club as well who continue to practice on
community ice rinks, like newly acquired Zach Parise.
Winnipeg Jets had finished off the regular season as the 11th overall after the 2011-2012 NHL regular season comes to an end with 84 points, tied with 10th place Tampa Bay Lightning and could have gotten into the postseason easily if
they had not made a few mistakes during the hockey year.
Next season is definitely one both sides are looking forward to, making it more exciting to see how they will perform after a test year in Winnipeg.
