Lockout not to help struggling teams -NHL Update
Teams that had a tough time in the past 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and did not make any significant changes to their line up during the offseason should not be breathing easier when hearing about the lockout as many believe, it
will be only worse for them.
The current collective bargaining agreement is set to come to an end by September 15, 2012, and has many analysts on the edge of their seats to see how things will turn out as the deadline closes in.
It just seems like the negotiation process between the league and NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA) kicked off just a few days back, but it has been over two months now and both sides are currently part of a limitless deadlock with each other not budging
on their positions.
"What I thought was starting as a promising week after we made our substantial counterproposal on Tuesday ends, I guess you can say, in disappointment," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "We did not get a proposal from the Union; call it more of a response
and the response basically was, as it relates to the economic issues, 'We're not going to reset. Anything we're prepared to do only comes out of future revenues and that’s our position.' So there was no counterproposal or new proposal.”
At the moment, there is no telling where the whole situation is headed but there are no signs of it heading into a positive direction as well with all just being negative and pointing towards a lockout, some that think will be the worst in history.
The NHL will also join the ranks that few have gone to with a second lockout in less than a decade of coming out of their previous one, making a bad impression on the business for sure.
Everyone has their needs and wants along with fulfilling the requirements of everyone, but the lockout has not helped any team in the past and will definitely not do so in the future. Players want a fair deal but the league terms it to be unfair on their
own grounds, forcing both sides to go into an entangled loop of confusion.
