What causes the locks on a Chevy Cobalt to lock and unlock by themselves. The key must be taken out of the ignition to stop or prevent this from happening.

Carolyn This is a feature called lock out protection.While the key is in the ignition the doors will not lock when you open the door to leave.This stops you from locking the keys in the car when you close the door.This lock out protection option is standard on all new chevys with power door locks.Best of luck.


  2. its hooked up through a speed sense wire on cars that lock after you start rolling, and for cars that do it automatically it is hooked up through your ignition wire, its not really something you can disconnect since it is wired through a "molex" style plug into a box either way.
