Lofty Chen Long claims Li Ning China Open title to prove his worth on home soil – Badminton feature
China’s elite shuttler Chen Long has been showing a great performance for the last couple of years and has earned many titles proving his highly elevated skills in the arena of badminton. He continued his incredible performance and added one more Men’s Singles
title to his legacy by proving his worth in the home event of Li Ning China Open 2012, which ended up on Sunday, November 18.
In the title match of this Premier Super Series tournament, the in-form Long unleashed his remarkable skills and remained successful in defeating his lower ranked compatriot Wang Zhengming at the indoor arena in Shanghai, China.
The top seeded Long, who has been positioned at number three in Men’s Singles world ranking, showed a staggering performance in all matches of the tournament and continued his tremendous run in the title match as well where he outplayed Zhengming in 48 minutes.
Long remained incredible throughout the tournament as he did not show any sign of confusion in front of his home fans and eventually won the final battle in straight games with a reasonable margin on score board.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Zhengming also played competitive badminton in the final encounter against his experienced team-mate but he failed to live up to expectations in the ending points of final set and eventually lost the match in a respectable
fashion.
In the opening set of the competition, Long delivered extremely well from the initial points by controlling the pace of rallies but his rival also showed aggression and both shuttlers stayed close at the starting stage.
However, Zhengming geared up his speed and managed to control the pace towards the end of opening half as he executed powerful smashes in all areas of the court by taking the bird early and remained successful in setting up a reasonable lead on score board
until the one-minute break.
After taking rest for one minute, the higher ranked Long started to change his tactics and took over the control of the game by accelerating his speed in all areas. He executed powerful smashes from both corners of rear-court area and managed to end up the
supremacy of his opponent in the arena.
Long did not let his opponent to find a good flow as he kept the pace of rallies at the highest level and eventually remained successful in claiming the opening game in a convincing fashion with a decent 21-19 score on the board.
Long was on a different level in the second game as he put in extra effort and took over the control from the initial stage of the game. He played attacking badminton and pushed his rival in all corners of the court. He managed to stay in commanding position
until the end of opening half.
After the one-minute break, Long continued putting up elevated show of top class badminton and remained successful in creating pressure on his rival. He maintained his upper hand in the arena all the way and won the set with a three-point advantage of 21-18.
The incredible Long did not let his fans down as he played terrific badminton all the way and also remained consistent in the final battle that enabled her to seal off a decent victory with a reasonable 21-19 and 21-18 total on the score board.
Long’s recent performance indicate that he has achieved the highest class skills of the sport and will be a commendable successor to his higher ranked country-mate Lin Dan who has won the gold medal in two consecutive editions of Olympic Games.
