Logan McGuinness to defend NABA title against Daniel Ruiz – Boxing news
The Lightweight Champion, Logan McGuinness is going to take on Super Featherweight contender, Daniel Ruiz in his second North American Boxing Association Lightweight title defence in front of his home crowd this weekend on June 24, 2011.
The two fighters will be face-to-face in their 10-round bout on Friday at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. This world-class boxing competition is sponsored by Hennessy Sports and Groupe Yvon Michel and is offered by United Boxing Promotions.
The 23-year-old, Logan McGuinness, who is currently the number eleven world WBA Champion, won his NABA Lightweight title fighting against Adrian Verdugo of Mexico in November 2010 at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
NABA Lightweight Champion, McGuinness won a unanimous points decision against Verdugo in their 8-round competitive bout. All the three judges gave the result in favour of the Canadian national, McGuinness.
McGuinness made the first successful defence of his NABA title going against Hector Julio Avila on February 19, 2011 at the same avenue where he claimed the NABA title against Verdugo in Canada.
McGuinness won a fourth round knockout decision against Avila in their 10-round bout. The time was 2:46 when the referee Rocky Zolnierczyk called the bout off raising McGuinness’ hand as a champion.
Orthodox stance, McGuinness said, “Orangeville is a small town of around 30,000 people. Everybody there is very supportive of their own and, where the fight is only a 40-minute drive, I expect half the town to be at my fight. Last September, I fought another
local fighter (Buzz Grant) and half of Orangeville had to be there. There’s some added pressure fighting at home but, to see my family and friends there supporting me when I walk out to the ring, well, I can’t describe what that really feels like.”
McGuinness believes that winning the NABA title was his first big goal and defending it is another little step leading up to what he really wants. He said he is still very young and he will get a world title shot in another year or two.
Hopefully, McGuinness will win this bout to secure his NABA title once again.
