Logan McGuinness to defend his newly acquired NABA gold against Meacher Major – Boxing News
Logan McGuinness, the current NABA super featherweight champion, will defend his newly acquired title for the very first time against Bahamian proud Meacher Major, the former WBA Fedecaribe lightweight champion, in a 12-round bout to be held on May 12, 2012.
The duo will headline the Saturday night showdown which is being presented by the trio of Adam Harris of Hennessy Sports Canada, Don MacDonald of United Promotions and Tyler Buxton of Buxton Promotions.
The ring for the event will be set up at Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada and the night will be co-headlined by the 10-round non-title bout between Samuel Vargas and Frederic Serre.
The duo recently met at the weigh-in gathering and shared their thoughts about the upcoming engagement.
Logan, 24, is on an undefeated streak and boasts 16 wins in a total 17 bouts.
He has collected just one draw decision, never lost even a single bout and collected just six wins by knockout. The Canadian proud lacks the ability to throw a raw powered jab that can knock the opponent out.
Despite this fact, Logan has built himself a reputation of brawling strategically while sticking to the game plan, the aspect which makes him a lethal brawler.
Logan has also proudly held the NABA lightweight title in fact he vacated the gold in order to take on Benoit Gaudet in his last bout for the super featherweight title.
His opponent, Meacher, 30, though overshadows Logan by his experience yet possesses a tarnished resume. The Bahamian proud, also known as ‘Major Pain’, is a knockout specialist who has collected 17 of his total 20 wins by knocking the opponents out cold.
Major has been in a total 26 bouts and since his last loss to Dorin Spivey, is on a four-bout win streak. During the weigh-in Meacher just uttered a one-liner, “You've got to go.”
Logan, on the other hand, did not lose his cool and remarked, “That’s where I’m going to be fighting. What’s the point of arguing up there on the stage? I just keep calm, cool and collected and do my fighting and winning in the ring.”
McGuinness further added that this time he will alter his strategy and will not follow the role of an aggressive brawler since Major is the aggressor adding that he will strive hard to defend his title.
Logan stated, “Usually I’m the aggressive one, but I see him being the aggressive one. It’s going to be me moving around and boxing, just doing what I do in the gym day in and day out.”
The bout will be a tough one and Major will try his level best to dethrone Logan off his NABA super featherweight reign since he has already lost twice the chance to grab the NABA lightweight gold and if he is able to knock Logan out in the early rounds
he may gift Logan his career’s first ever defeat.
