Logan Samuelson wins Men’s 500 yard freestyle prelims – Speedo Winter Junior Nationals
Logan Samuelson of Swim Florida-FL won the preliminary round of Men’s 500 yard freestyle on opening day of the 2012 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at University of Tennessee, Knoxville on Thursday, December 6.
Samuelson faced tough competition from his rivals in the first half but with his unrelenting efforts in the second half, he managed to enter the final as top contender for gold medal.
With his impeccable pace, Samuelson enjoyed a full body length lead over his closest swimmer and tapped the wall for first position with the timing of 4 minutes and 22.89 seconds.
His gruelling effort remained 1.08 seconds ahead of Jonathan Roberts of North Texas Nada, who acquired second best qualification spot of the race by producing a time of 4 minutes and 23.97 seconds.
Roberts was followed by Ryan Kao of La Mirada Armada, who was just 0.30 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and transpired on the finishing end by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 24.27 seconds.
Kao was chased by Liam Egan of Crimson Aquatics, who was only 0.06 seconds slower from his former finisher and reached the wall for fourth position by posting an effort of 4 minutes and 24.33 seconds.
Egan was chased by Brock Turner of Dayton Raiders-O, who stayed 0.38 seconds slower from upsetting his former finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 24.71 seconds for fifth place.
Sixth best qualification spot of the race was obtained by James Yoder of Stingrays-GA, who was just 0.02 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and concluded his race in a time of 4 minutes and 24.73 seconds.
Yoder was followed by Joshua Beals of Crimson Aquatics, who was 0.15 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end as seventh fastest swimmer by posting a time of 4 minutes and 24.88 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the race was obtained by Thomas Anderson of College Area Swimming, who was 0.69 seconds slower and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 25.57 seconds.
In addition, Samuelson was happy with his fastest qualification effort while the session ended after the event.
