Logan Todhunter improves butterfly record at NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships
Williams’s Logan Todhunter lowered the 100-yard butterfly record in the preliminary rounds of the morning session on day two of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Swimming and Diving Championship, held at the Allan Jones Aquatic
Centre in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The championship has already faced a record-breaking effort in the Women’s 500-yard freestyle on day one and this was the second record improvement in the championship. The session included the preliminary rounds of Men and Women in the 200-yard freestyle
relay, 400-yard Individual Medley (IM), 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle.
In the Women’s 200-yard freestyle relay, Emory’s team successfully out-touched Denison in a time of 1:33.22 minutes against Denison’s 1:33.34 minutes, to qualify as the fastest into the finals. Stevens followed them in the third fastest qualification time
of 1:34.00 minutes. Kenyon won the equivalent event in the Men’s corner in a fastest qualification time of 1:20.53 minutes, ahead of UW-Stevens and M.I.T, who touched the wall in a time of 1:21.75 and 1:21.78 minutes, respectively.
In the Women’s 400-yard IM, Elizabeth Horvat was the fastest swimmer in a time of 4:19.98 minutes and was comfortably ahead of Carolin Wilson and Emil Schroeder, who clocked a time of 4:23.09 and 4:23.54 minutes, respectively. In the Men’s corner, John Hu
captured the equivalent event in 3:55.21 minutes ahead of Evan Wilson and Andr Chevalier, who touched home in 3:56.13 and 3:56.53 minutes, respectively.
Logan Todhunter improved the 100-yard butterfly record in a fantastic time of 52.84 seconds and was comfortably ahead of Leslie Hackler and Laura Pierce, who registered a time of 54.95 and 55.09 seconds, respectively. On the other hand, John Dillon emerged
as the fastest male swimmer in the same event in a time of 48.00 seconds. Michae Mpitsos and Wya Ubellacker followed him for the second and third fastest qualification spots in a time of 48.11 and 48.34 seconds, respectively.
Next was the Women’s 200-yard freestyle, where Kendra Stern dominated her swim in 1:48.73 minutes and was followed by Alyssa Swanson and Anne Culpepper in a time of 1:49.28 and 1:49.93 minutes, respectively. In the Men’s corner, Gary Roberson qualified as
the fastest swimmer in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 1:38.45 minutes. Craig Fleming and Jorda Degayner remained slightly slower than Roberson and touched the wall in a time of 1:38.53 and 1:38.64 minutes, respectively.
The finals of the same events will be conducted in the next session of the championship.
