  1. You can not import excel files into the remote. if you do not have RF do not buy the 890. The 880 is just fine if everything you own is infrared. The Harmony will control all the functions of your DVD changer no problem. But you can not set it up to do direct disk selection.

I disagree with statement about Harmony remotes having issue with the rechargeable battery. My Harmony 880 is over 2 years old and it will sit off the charger for over a week.

DO NOT KEEP/STORE THEM ON THE CHARGERS!!!! Constant recharging of a live rechargeable battery will kill it. You have to run them down to the red before you recharge them. I do not put my Harmony on the charger till it tells me to.

  2. I think maybe people here are answering the wrong question. The question seems to be whether Harmony remotes OTHER than the 880 and 890 can import media data. The 880 and 890 DEFINITELY CAN import such data in the form of CSV files. However, I'm afraid I don't know whether other Harmonies have this ability. (I would suspect any Harmony with a Media button could do so.) A good place to ask would be on the Harmony Remote message board: http://forums.logitech.com/logitech?cate...

  3. You cannot import anything onto these remotes other than photos as a screen saver. You cannot pick a movie by title and have it play. The Harmony's are designed for simplicity, thats it. You press watch a movie and your system powers up and is ready to go with all settings correct.

There is a remote on the market which holds any picture you want which you can use to create buttons on the screen. I worked with a home theater tech that has the player you have (actually 4 of them linked together) and he has a button on the screen when he is in movie mode that is labeled "movies". When he presses it, a screen comes up with photos of all his movies in the players. He presses the one he wants and the player loads it. Drawback to this is that it is VERY complicated to set up and he has been working on it for 2 years now hear and there, but is not done. Every time he presses a movie he wants to watch, the remote has to run through a 25 step program that you need to input manually. So, in your case, 400 movies x 25 steps each x 2 minutes for each program = 333 hours just to program that section of the remote. The remote is called the MX-3000 from Universal Remotes and retails for around $1000.

The Harmony's also have issues with there rechargeable batteries holding a charge. I have had a few.

  4. Here are some remotes that will do what you want:

Nevo SL: Color programmable touch screen. Not hard to learn.

Pronto 7500: Color programmable touch screen. Not hard to learn.

Pronto 3500: Monochrome programmable touch screen. Not hard to learn and under $500. Harder to see than color.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say the new RTI probably can too, but I don't use it, so I'm not sure.

Crestron and AMX could be made to use your excel file, but their systems are quite expensive. $10k+ with programming. You won't be doing it yourself.

The MX3000 is, well, not good enough for the money in my humble opinion, particularly with the Nevo and Pronto available. Logitech doesn't make anything you can use.
