Logjam at the top through the halfway mark of the Players Championship: Wrap-up Part-1
The Players Championship has now entered in a logjam on the leaderboard with no fewer than three players surging to the top of the in a stiff battle through the halfway mark.
American Zach Johnson surged to the top alongside countryman Kevin Na while Matt Kuchar has also thrown in his best performance in a while to share the lead.
Na, who performed well in the opening round with a five-under, 67, clinched the lead with another blistering three-under, 69, and is now hoping to continue with his stunning form through the remaining 36 holes.
With another disappointing start of the day when Na fell for an opening bogey at par-four, 1st, the young player regained composure to pull in two consecutive birdies to fill up for the early loss, much on the likes of his opening round.
Brimming with confidence, Na clinched another birdie on par-four, 5th and dropped another shot at the seventh.
He said, "You know, I've won before, so that win last year did a lot for me confidence-wise, and being a lot more relaxed out there when I'm in contention. I'm playing very well, rolling it great. I think the key for me is going to be the driver, putting
it in the fairway".
The 28-years-old Na is the one of the youngest of the three at the top of the leaderboard, is in search of his third PGA Tour win and has done well so far to stay in contention.
He posted a joint fifth earlier in the season at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and another strong joint fourth at Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Na made the turn to a surprisingly refreshing back nine where he carded no fewer than six birdies and did not drop a shot through the nine-hole stretch.
Johnson meanwhile is utilising his experience on the course and lives in the proximity of the sprawling TPC Sawgrass.
Johnson said, “It was pretty solid. I got off to a good start, which certainly kind of gives you a little bit of confidence, a little bit of momentum, especially with my putter”.
