so i have an idea for an online store that i want to start up. well it deals with shoes, and i was wondering if i can use the superman logo without getting sued. i've seen it on other custom shoe sites, but i don't think they asked for permission. can't i just add the logo for decorative effect instead of being like "oh these are superman (registered) shoes nahnahnahblahblahblah"? help?

  1. As of this moment, as per the ruling by Judge Stephen Larson on March 26, 2008, Superman’s copyright is owned in two equal parts by DC Comics/Time Warner and the heirs of Superman co-creator, Jerry Siegel.

Good luck getting a hold of them :)

Unless you are a big name company with a big idea, chances are they will not even bother talking to you, work with something else create your own super hero, and eventually your business will grow then when you have credibility, you voice may be heard.

  2. got to get permission or get sued. it's a registered trademark and they want to get paid for their idea. if you make a million off their logo and they don't a dime you've basically stolen their idea.
