Lokomotiv BAKU sweeps VDK GENT Dames in semi-final of 2012 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup
A semi final match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup Women took place on March 15 in the Belgian city of Gent.
The two teams that competed with each other in the final four round of the tournament were Lokomotiv BAKU as well as the home squad of VDK GENT Dames.
It did not take long for the match to reach its close as the guests handed out a defeat to the home team by making a clean sweep over them. Despite the fact that the home team lost the match in three back-to-back sets, they did not go down without putting
up a good fight.
By the time that the match reached its close, the scoreboard showed the final scores as 27-25, 26-24, and 25-21.
The assistant coach of the Lokomotiv squad, Goran Jovicic, expressed himself in the following words at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close, “It was a difficult game but I am happy that we finally won. We are pleased
to have taken this game with an opponent that made our task not that easy in the first two sets.”
On the other hand, the coach of the home team, Stijn Morand, shared his views in the following manner, “Even though we lost tonight I am still convinced we can go for a win in Baku. This is a learning process for my young team and these games are useful
for us to get ready for the Playoffs and possibly become Belgium’s national champions this year.”
The first set of the match saw both the teams come out strong against each other. No one was sure where the tables would turn until the end of the frame when the guests were able to propel themselves forwards and bag the opening set.
The loss of the first frame did not dampen the spirits of the home side as they continued to put up a good fight with the guests. However, the guests were able to put on a spurt of speed that got them to bag the second set as well. After the second set,
the third set came easy for the guests.
