Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK defeats Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK by 3-2 – 2012 CEV Volleyball League
A 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League- Men match took place recently between Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK as well as the Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK.
The venue of the competition was the USI hall that is situated in the Austrian city of Innsbruck.
The contest between the two sides took on competitive tones as it went on for five long gruelling sets. No one was sure where the tables would turn until the very end of the last frame.
However, by the time that the match reached its close, the Lokomotiv NOVOSIBIRSK squad was able to end up on the winning side after sealing the deal at the following final set scores, 25-15, 22-25, 21-25, 25-19 and 15-13.
The head coach of the losing team, Stefan Chrtiansky, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference conducted after the match reached its close, “We got our first point, which I think we well deserved after the performance we have shown
throughout the entire Champions League season. Also today we played really well, even though I think we relaxed a little bit after winning the second set and thought that Lokomotiv might not come back that strong. However, they did so and we missed some opportunities
to score and so unfortunately we lost a close game at the end. May be if everybody had kept playing at a 100% we could have even won the whole game.”
The first set of the match saw the Russians take the lead early on at 8-2, an advantage that they were able to keep with themselves until 21-13. After that point, it was only a matter of time before the opening frame reached its close at 25-15. It only took
the Russians 22 minutes to bag the first set.
After losing the first set, the Austrians responded by bagging the second one as well as the third one that increased the pressure on the Russians tremendously.
However, they were able to step up their performance and smother the Austrians on the fourth frame and also went on to secure themselves the fifth and final set of the match.
