  1. 7x^2-19x-6=0

    (7x + 2) (x - 3) = 0

    7x + 2 = 0 or x - 3 = 0

    x = -2/7 or 3

  2. You got the signs mixed up:

    (x - 3) (x + 2/7)

    roots are 3 and -2/7

  3. You know the factors have to look something like:

    (7x       )(x        ) because 7 times 1 is the only way you get 7

    further, the constants have to look like one of the following to get a 6 as the constant term

    (        1)(          6)

    (        2)(          3)

    Now, it's just a guessing-game or trial and error to find the correct combination.

    By observation, I know that 3 x 7 is 21 and 2 x 1 is two, 21 - 2 is 19 (our middle term) so lets try that:

    (7x    2)(x      3)

    Now, since the constant is negative we know we have both + and - operations and also, we know that the larger of the factors has to give us the -19x so

    (7x + 2) (x - 3) =0 looks pretty good. Try to FOIL it out to make sure.

    That gives you x = 3 and x = -2/7 as roots.

  4. I believe it's (x - 3)(x + 2/7), but don't hold my feet to the fire on it.

  5. no, an = sign cannot be in the brackets!
