Unai Emery resigned from the managerial position at Spartak Moscow with a heavy heart and tears in his eyes after being replaced by Valery Karpin at the helm due to the Russian Premier League club’s troublesome start to the campaign
this term.
The Moscow-based club terminated the two-year contract with the Spanish coach, who left Mestalla stadium to join Spartak this summer, on a mutual consent after sending him back home.
The fact that Karpin reclaimed the managerial position after suggesting the club’s management to appoint Emery six months ago surprises Nicolas Lombaerts, who has expressed his surprise over the 43-year-old’s emotional comeback.
Spartak will play their first match against Zenit St. Petersburg at Luzhniki stadium on Friday under Karpin and Lombaerts believes that Spartak player’s will try to prove themselves under the newly appointed coach.
“That's interesting. I'm waiting for a difficult away game. I do not know how the players reacted after Karpin returned but we know it will be difficult.”
“Usually in such cases, the players try to prove them in a new leadership, especially those players who used to sit on the bench. In any case, we are waiting for a difficult derby.” The UEFA Cup winner was quoted as saying.
The defending league champions will play the upcoming league tie against Spartak on the back of a 1-1 draw against CSKA Moscow at Petrovsky stadium and they played the match without their home supporters following a punishment.
The Meshki have been penalized by the Russian football union after their fans injured Dynamo Moscow goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anton-Shunin-c6283, after throwing firecrackers from the stands. The match officials abandoned the match in the consequence
of the sad event.
“In order to throw the firecracker to the field at Luzhniki, you need to be an Olympic champion. We need the support of our fans as they act like the twelfth player for us.” He concluded.
Lombaerts expected a bit of mercy from the disciplinary committee and urged the supporters to be more disciplined and organized.
