London 2012 Olympic Games football event still not sold out
Football remains to be the only sport left in the London 2012 Olympic Games that still has tickets left to be sold, as reported by BBC Sport.
Despite the fact that the sport is popularly called one of the favourite ones in the Olympic Games, it has not been able to attract the expected amount of attention as ticket sales have been slow. The total number of tickets that were available initially
for football was 2.3 million. However, more than half of that number still remains to be sold as sales have been made on 800,000 tickets so far only.
The following comments were made by a spokesperson of the London 2012 Olympic Games, “We are confident that when we know more about the teams and the draw, people will want to be part of the Olympic Games at the football venues across the UK.”
As a total of 1.5 million tickets are still left unsold, it is highly likely that some of them may remain in stock by the time that the Olympic Games commence on the July 27. The football games that are yet to be filled are the men’s quarter-finals as well
as the semi finals.
In case some of the tickets are still left unsold by the time that the Games arrive, it is highly likely that the earlier football events would be left incomplete rather than let the later football games in the Olympics tournament suffer from vacant seats.
The following comments were made by the chair of the Football Supporters’ Federation Malcolm Clarke, “The general problem is that Olympic football is not seen as the pinnacle. Most die-hard fans will be heading to Poland and Ukraine for Euro 2012 and wouldn't
have even thought about the Olympics. They should have also priced the tickets much lower. I'm sure sales will pick up to an extent, but I'd be very surprised if there was a surge.”
The men’s matches are not the only football events that have tickets remaining; the women’s football matches also have tickets available for knockout ties, the quarter-finals as well as the gold medal match.
