London 2012 Olympic Games official website encountering problems
The official website of the London 2012 Olympic Games recently opened its door to sell some tickets for the international sporting event.
These tickets were the ones that had already been bought, but the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games had given the option to the ticket owners to resell their purchases through the official website of the Olympics.
This window of opportunity to resell the tickets has been open to the sellers until February 3, 2012. The tickets have been put up for sale by the sellers on their face value as no profit is allowed to be made on their reselling. Interestingly, the website
has been encountering problems with the tickets sales as happened last year when the tickets were being sold during the first, second and third round of sales.
Despite the fact that people have started to complain about the system and its seeming inability to withstand heavy traffic, LOCOG maintains that there is no problem this time around.
A spokesperson from LOCOG expressed its stance on the matter in the following manner, “If someone selects a ticket and then cannot purchase them it would be because someone else has selected those tickets at the same time and it has processed quicker...
It's exactly the same system we've always used. There's been tickets sold already and we know there's been tickets across quite a wide range of sports. We were never expecting a massive amount to go on because these are only tickets that people can't or don't
want to use anymore. We have seen a steady stream going on the exchange. The demand is exactly in line with what we expected.”
The LOCOG has allocated 2012 for selling of a total of 1 million pending tickets. However, 10,000 of these are now out of the picture as both LOCOG and their ticketing agent Ticketmaster have admitted that there has been a glitch in the ticket sales.
As explained by LOCOG and the Ticketmaster, there was a human error committed due to which 10,000 tickets were over sold for synchronized swimming.
