London 2012 Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies to be broadcast in 3D by BBC
The British Broadcasting Corporation is going to showcase the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games in 3D with two of the events to be broadcast in the three dimensional fashion being the opening as well as the closing ceremonies of the Games that will take
place on July 27 and August 12 respectively.
The three-dimensional broadcast that the BBC has planned to provide for its audience will be transmitted in 16 times the detail of high definition.
However, this broadcast service will not be available all over Great Britain. A total of four locations all over England will have the honour of featuring special Super Hi-Vision cinema screens. Three of these locations include Bradford, London and Edinburgh.
The people who will have the privilege of getting hold of tickets for any one of these three locations will be able to experience the London 2012 Olympic Games in a resolution of 7680x4320.
On the other hand, the size of the screen on which the Olympics will be broadcast will be 400 inches. Not only that, the sound system accompanying the video will be 22.2 fully immersed.
Tim Plyming, who is the project executive of digital and editor live sites for BBC London 2012 commented on the 3D broadcast in the following manner, “For families not able to get a ticket for the Olympic venues, this is the closest thing to being there.
It will be a great experience to see it live, but we will also have it captured in perpetuity in Super Hi-Vision. We'll be in four venues and have three cameras out in the park. We'll have an outside broadcast truck that will move around. Most of the footage
will be recorded and we'll put out edited highlights packages every day in order to get greater numbers of people to experience Super Hi-Vision.”
The process of ticketing for the 3D broad cast of the London 2012 Olympic Games that are scheduled to start from July 27 and last until August 12 will be done from June. The prospective ticket buyers will be able to get tickets by logging on to the official
ticketing website of the BBC.
