London 2012 Olympic Games security costs cannot be predicted
It has been recently revealed by one of the highest Olympic security chiefs that the cost of security that will be incurred during the London 2012 Olympic Games cannot be foretold and will only be determined after the event reaches its close.
Chris Allison, who is the assistant police commissioner, made the following comments on the issue: "Can I tell you how much money I need? No I cannot, I can't tell you what the final costs are going to be. I don't think we will be able to say what the Olympic
security will cost until October next year. It is a challenge getting people to apply for these jobs, we are a shrinking organisation because of budget cuts and this has created challenges for police staffing. We are not anticipating crowd conflicts inside
the venues.”
The prestigious sporting event that is scheduled to take place next year will provide the city of London with one of the biggest security challenges that the city has faced so far. For this purpose, a huge amount of security staff has been allotted for security
to the Olympic Games. Other than that, the top security chief of the Olympic Games has been making efforts to enroll as many police officials as possible to ensure a safe Olympic Games.
The budget that has been set aside for the security at the Olympic Games totals to be £600 million. However, that is not all which has been allotted to the security as an additional £238 million is set aside as a contingency plan. This contingency money
has been provided keeping in mind any possible threat from any terrorist group.
The average number of police officers deployed per day during the London 2012 Olympic Games will be around 12,000. Not only that, the military will also be made use of at the strategic points in the city of London.
London will be playing host to the Olympic Games for the third time in its history. After having hosted the Games next year, the capital of England will become the first city in the world to have done so thrice.
