London 2012 Olympic Games test event starts - Beach Volleyball
The 2012 Olympic Games Beach Volleyball test event is taking centre stage on Tuesday, August 9. The campaign is scheduled to run through the coming weekend and close off on Sunday, August 14. It is the first time that the city of London will hold this type
of international beach volleyball tournament on its soil.
The Horse Guards Parade is ready to host the action as tons of sand has been brought to the venue and five courts have been designed for the tournament. One court will serve as centre court, while rest of the courts will be served as training and warm-up
courts.
The test event for London Olympic is also being labelled as the Visa FIVB Beach Volleyball International Tournament.
A total of 24 women’s teams are expected to join the action at the intercontinental exhibition tournament. The teams have been decided by the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) and London Organising Committee of Olympic Games (LOCOG). Aspiring
Beach Volleyball tandems from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Spain, Great Britain, Greece, Mexico, the Netherlands, Portugal, Uganda, USA, Vanuatu, and Malaysia have managed to jump on board. The Visa FIVB Beach Volleyball Tournament will be hosted at the
same House Guards Parade and the same rules and regulations of the Olympic Games will be followed.
Initially, the teams will be divided into six pools and competition will take a start with the preliminary robin round matches. At the end of first round, two top teams of the pool will advance to the next of 16. Two best 3rd-ranked teams will also join
the top-16 round, while winners of the Lucky Loser matches will capture the remaining last two spots. The top-16 round will progress with elimination bracket and it will lead to the finals.
The Visa FIVB Beach Volleyball has special purpose to serve. Since Horse Guards Parade will host the Olympics next year, this event will not only highlight the technicality and functionality of the coming up Olympic Games but it will also create awareness
among masses. It will attract the attention of local and international media. LOCOG and FIVB are hopeful of the stupendous success of the event.
