London 2012 Olympics games ticket sales to begin today
The second round of ticket sales for the London 2012 Olympics games is about to begin on June 24.
The buyers will have a time period of 10 days during which the tickets will be sold to whoever comes first to buy them at the counter. However, seeing the amount of enthusiasm and interest the prestigious sports event has generated around the world, it is
expected that the tickets will be sold out within a few hours.
700,000 applicants from the first round were told of their seats and events a week ago. This left out a total of 1.2 million applicants who were not lucky enough to be selected during the ballot.
According to Bradley Wiggins, an Olympian himself and a person who was not among the lucky few who got selected for the tickets, the ballot style procedure of the allotment of tickets is no a success. "It's a shame when you know what works so successfully
in other Olympic Games, certainly Athens, that they couldn't implement those ticket systems here. I'd love to have my family there. I grew up in London and would love to have my mum and everyone there watching me but, you know, that's the way it is I suppose,
you just get on with it. It's a shame but there's nothing you can do about it," he said.
However, the participating athletes of the London 2012 Games have been assured by the organizers that they will sold two tickets each for every session that they are taking part in.
These are just some of the hurdles that the city of London is facing in the wake of the preparations of the games next year. It will not be the first time that London will be staging the grand event as it has already done so twice previously.
The three million tickets that have been sold include 21 events that are now not available for sale. These events comprise ceremonies and tennis among other sports. The majority of the tickets that are still left include football, with the remaining seats
at 1.7 million.
