A statement from the London Chest Hospital has said that Bolton Wanderers midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabrice-Muamba-c13216 is ‘showing signs of improvement’ after the player collapsed on the field on Saturday.
The 23 year old Zaire born player suffered a cardiac arrest during a FA cup match against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane. He was given treatment on the field before he was rushed to the London Chest Hospital.
According to a statement from the hospital "He is continuing to show signs of improvement this evening.”
"He is currently able to breathe independently without the aid of a ventilator. He has also been able to recognise family members and respond to questions appropriately.”
However, the doctors said the player is still in a critical condition even though he is showing signs of progress and still needs to remain in intensive health care.
“..his condition remains serious and our medical staff in intensive care will continue to monitor and treat him.” The statement added.
Bolton’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Davies-c20716 said that more news will soon come forward related to the health of the player and hoped that his team mate will make a full recovery very soon. He thanked all the paramedic staff and the fans on behalf of the club for all
the support and best wishes.
Muamba’s girlfriend, in a twitter message asked the fans to keep on praying for the player and thanked all the supporters for their messages of love and prayers.
Bolton’s weekend match against Blackburn Rovers is likely to be postponed with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 manager, Steve Kean realizing that the club may need a little time to come out of their current state of trauma.
In the meanwhile, Tottenham’s players have demanded heart checks following the distressing scenes of Saturday, according to a cardiologist.
"The players have all demanded cardiac screening today,'' sports cardiologist Sanjay Sharma said.
The process of heart screening would involve a careful examination of all players including asking about family history, cardiac symptoms, chest pains and any other factor that may lead to cardiac arrest.
The move was backed by the Spur’s manager, Harry Redknapp who said that what happened to Muamba was shocking for the entire football world and the players needed reassurances and additional opportunities to be screened.
However, Tottenham have confirmed that their match against Stoke City will go ahead as per schedule and Redknapp said his team needs to come out of this trauma to set their sights back on the club’s ambitions for the season. He said the incident is likely
to hit some players who are already in a state of distress but urged his side to carry on with the season.
