London Irish lock Bob Casey admits Northampton have few weaknesses
London Irish forward Bob Casey admitted his team will face a formidable Northampton team, regardless of players missing because of international duty, come Friday 26 November.
London Irish dropped into second place after losing to Wasps 33-25 last weekend, and the team will visit Northampton, who are the new league leaders after they defeated Sale 19-10.
Casey suggested Northampton will fancy their chances ahead of the game. "They've a much bigger squad than us and it's a good quality squad—there won't be many weaknesses," the forward told BBC Berkshire.
Casey admitted that recent results had been disappointing, but the player insisted that the Exiles would be ready to face Northampton. "We were very disappointed, but [we've] been really professional in our recovery, training and analysis and I know we'll
be ready come Friday night," Casey said.
London Irish may face their former out-half Shane Geraghty after his move to Northampton in 2009. Casey was adamant that there was no ill will towards Geraghty after the playmaker moved to their rivals. "That's what happens in sport—players move on. We just
focus on what we're doing at London Irish and how we're going to beat Northampton.”
The forward insisted that they would need to concentrate on Stephen Myler more than Geraghty, as he is likely to start having usurped the former London Irish player in the out-half position. "He probably won't start for them—Myler seems to be ahead of him.
We had a great time when he was here. Shane played some great games for us."
Both teams will be missing key members of their squad because of the Autumn Internationals, but the two club sides will be aware that the top of the table clash could be a crucial game in the Aviva Premiership this season. "The league certainly isn't going
to be decided on Friday, but it's a very important fixture for us," Casey said.
