London Irish out half Chris Malone targets coaching role in Australia
London Irish out half Chris Malone has admitted that this season may be his last with the club.
The 33-year-old intends to return to his native Australia and he hopes to take up a coaching position and start a new chapter in his career.
Speaking to BBC Berkshire, Malone said, "I'd like to coach in Australia, I want to go home and I feel like it's a good time to go into the next phase of my rugby career.”
Malone’s contract runs out at the end of the season and the out-half is expected to finish his rugby career with London Irish.
Malone will be eager to finish his career on a high and the out-half said, “I've got a big opportunity now to have a big season at London Irish. At the moment my thinking is to have a good season and finish
well."
Malone admitted that it would not be easy for the Exiles to maintain their lead in the Aviva Premiership, but the player hoped that he could focus on winning matches for the club.
"I'm just going to concentrate on one game at a time because there are no easy games in this league, there's a difficult game every week. We're going strong at the moment and it's great we are winning
games, but we want to continue to evolve in order to be successful,” he said.
London Irish top the Aviva Premiership and lead Northampton by one point. They are still involved in the Heineken Cup, but have a tough task in qualifying for the knock out stages in a group that contains
Munster, the Ospreys and Toulon.
Speaking about the Premiership, Malone said, "We're in a good position but we're a long way off determining who is going to be in the top four and who is going to win at the end."
Malone will hope that he can pick up some silverware before he moves on.
