London Irish sign Canadian international flanker Jebb Sinclair to one-year deal: Rugby news
English rugby union club, London Irish, have acquired the services of the Canadian international back row forward, Jebb Sinclair. Officials at the Exiles have confirmed the signing of the Canadian flanker to a one-year deal in a statement released
on their website on Tuesday, July 26.
London Irish head coach, Toby Booth, has expressed his confidence that Sinclair can perform in the Aviva Premiership and European competitions.
Booth confirmed that he was impressed by the Sinclair’s strong performance for Canada during the 2011 Churchill Cup tournament. He said, “I saw a lot of Jebb during the recent Churchill Cup and I was impressed. His work rate around the park was of
a high standard and allowed others around him to shine, that is what you need from a forward in the Premiership.”
Booth has praised Sinclair’s multiple skills, particularly his strong ball carrying and line out and termed them as great strength for the team next season.
The 25-year-old Sinclair made his international debut for Canada against Portugal in November 2008. He has played 15 international tests for Canada and has played against teams like Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Sinclair has expressed his delight on signing a new deal with the Exiles and termed it a great opportunity to compete with some of the best players in the world of rugby. He said, “Moving to London Irish offers me the opportunity to test myself against
the best players in the Northern Hemisphere and a chance to show these players what I’m capable of.”
Sinclair’s strong performance in the 2011 Churchill Cup, particularly his match saving performance against the Russians in their Pool match which was followed by his impressive performance in the Cup final against the England Saxons, has earned him
a place in Canada’s 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC) squad.
Sinclair will join the London Irish at the end of the Canada’s 2011 RWC campaign, probably in the first week of November.
