  1. great answer from the previous poster ... I just hope you're a cricket lover because you'll be close to The Oval and it's pretty crowded when there's a test match on ... maybe you should think about joining Surrey Cricket Club as The Oval is a great ground

  2. Yes! I live just up the road and it's a fantastic place to live. Your close to the Embankment and great transport links. A few dodgy people round here, but nice dodgy people.

  3. 60% of muggings, stabbings, street violence, car jacking, and murders in south London are carried out within 2 square miles of  the walworth rd camberwell.  Kennington falls well within that banner.

The traffic lights directly outside the station in Kennington park road are particularly notorious for car crime (smash and grab, car jacking etc).

Walk down Braganza street (next to the station) at midnight and tell me that you feel safe.

Now before you all slate this post for having no substance, and give it the obligatory thumbs down!

I'll tell you, that i witness (and report) several incidents a week in and around Kennington, normally failed muggings and car jacking, some even more serious.

Primarily after midnight, and well into the early hours (whilst you are all safely tucked up in bed).

This is not to say that  Kennington is all bad, because it's not, there are many attractive squares and streets, but if you look closely, you can see that they have now employed private security companies to monitor their streets, squares etc, although rather discreetly.

So before doing an appraisal  for a person who seeks advice on a particular area, please do some research first, and save people unnecessary expense.

People say to me! why don't black cab drivers go south of the river, well the answer to that is, we do, but their are certain parts that we don't like and this is one of them.

As a night worker 10pm-4.00am i see it first hand, and can easily justify my comments.

If you are around any main line terminal train station, pick up a copy of the taxi times (free) at the open dispensers.

The paper always highlights incidents and no go streets in London,  Certain parts of Kennington ranks high amongst them, so does certain parts of St johns wood, Peckham, deptford, camden, Brixton etc, colloquially known as traps.

So the answer to your question is; no it's not a good place to stay, visit maybe, but not to live, albeit that clapham high street is just up the road, and is extremely vibrant with pubs and clubs etc, most of the people who use them don't live in Kennington........I know, because i take them home.

And your ammendment regarding the lenght of time you will be there for, would have been better put in your original post to save people the time of giving in depth information.

  4. Kennington is on the Northern Line - and you can get into the centre of London - eg Leicester square in less than 10 mins.  Like all parts of London, some parts of Kennington have some run down council estates, but also a lot of really nice apartments.  If you are driving - good access to south coast down A23 to M23 to Brighton.  As Kennington is South of the river and on the Northern line it is just a couple of stops away from the chic bars and restaurants in Clapham, Clapham North and Clapham common tube stations just a couple of stops south.  All in all, a good choice.  Close to town, great communications.  Like all places in london, just use your common sense when out and about.  yes its in Zone 2 - so a weekly Zone 1 and 2 pass costs just over £20, monthly about £80 giving you unlimited travel around central london.
