London Olympics 2012: BAM decides to lodge their shuttlers near Wembley Arena
The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has decided to provide its shuttlers accommodation near the tournament venue, Wembley Arena to avoid any inconvenience before their matches.
London Olympics will be staged from July 28, 2012 and Wembley Arena will host the badminton event.
The organisers of this mega event have built a Games Village to provide training and accommodation facilities to all athletes at one spot but it will take them an hour to reach at the tournament venue from this Games Villages.
Keeping this in mind, BAM and National Sports Council (NSC) announced that the Malaysian shuttlers will not reside in this Village rather accommodation will be arranged near Wembley Arena.
After this joint meeting of BAM and NSC, the secretary of national body Ng Chin Chai briefed the media about the decisions.
He said, “The players will report at the Games Village first to facilitate the accreditation of athletes. Then, they will move their base to Wembley.”
The Association also decided that the Malaysian challengers will leave earlier to have good practice sessions in Olympic conditions.
Moreover, BAM also has announced to send sparring shuttlers, psychologists and physicians with national squad to switch on the best in them.
Malaysia will be looking towards Men’s Singles maestro Lee Chong Wei, the female duo Chin Eei h*i-Wong Pei Tty the Men’s Doubles experts Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and Mixed Double pair of Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying for medals in London Olympics.
The good news for badminton lovers is that the maestro Chong Wei will be swinging his arms very soon. He was resting his paining shoulder due to injury and remained absent from the arena.
Now the Malaysian challenger will have a great practice run before the mega event in next couple of months as he is scheduled to participate in India Open, Malaysia Open and Thomas Cup finals in China.
The Malaysian King, Chong Wei will also participate in team building and motivational camp which is organised by BAM to boost up the morale of its shuttlers before the esteemed events like Thomas Cup finals and London Olympics 2012.
