London Olympics 2012: Chung Jae Sung – Lee Yong Dae claim Men’s Doubles bronze medal
Korea’s Chung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae proved their elite skills on court as they claimed Men’s Doubles bronze medal after stamping their mark over Malaysia’s Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong at the London Olympics 2012 at Wembley Arena, London, on Sunday,
August 5.
The World Number One Jae Sung and Yong Dae, who showed their wonderful craft throughout the tournament, played to their maximum potential and overpowered Kien Keat and Boon Heong who are World Number Eight at the moment.
Jae Sung and Yong Dae, who were second seeds in Men’s Doubles draw of Olympics, worked really hard in the first game but they got a smooth ride in the following set and registered a straight-set victory over their Malaysian rivals with an impressive margin.
The lower ranked Kien Keat and Boon Heong, who have been showing impressive performance in the tournament, put up good show in the opening set but luck was not with them as they failed to take three set points and lost the game with a tight margin.
The Malaysian duo failed to put up strong show in the following set and lost it easily to their higher ranked Korean rivals.
In the opening set, the in-form Jae Sung and Yong Dae played to their best speed but failed to take any advantage as their Malaysian opponents put up strong resistance.
Both sides remained close on score board until the end of opening half in this first game.
After the mid-game interval, Kien Keat and Boon Heong played superb badminton and managed to reach at 20-18.
However, the Malaysian shuttlers failed to take the set point as Jae Sung and Yong Dae showed their brilliance and came from behind to grab the game with a 23-21 score on the board.
In the following set, it was smooth sailing for Jae Sung and Yong Dae as they played with precision and easily overpowered their rival with a one-sided 21-10 score on the board.
The higher ranked Jae Sung and Yong Dae won this bronze medal match in straight sets with a convincing margin of 23-21 and 21-10.
