London Olympics 2012: Parupalli Kashyap shows Nguyen Tien Minh exit to reach into pre-quarter-final
India’s ace shuttler Parupalli Kashyap showed a strong character and stole the limelight as he put up staggering performance against his higher ranked opponent Nguyen Tien Minh in Men’s Singles Group D battle and advanced into pre-quarter-final at the Olympic
Games 2012 at Wembley Arena, London, on Tuesday, July 31.
The un-seeded Kashyap, who is currently placed at number 21 in Men’s Singles world ranking, was in his prime form as he played tremendous badminton against the World Number 11 and 10th seeded Tien Minh and easily won the battle in an emphatic
fashion.
The lower ranked Kashyap stayed focused on court all the way in the contest and he never let his opponent to take a dominating position at any stage and eventually ended up the match in straight games with a comfortable margin.
In the meanwhile, Tien Minh was not at his best as he made many uncharacteristic errors. He failed to break the flow of his spirited Indian opponent and bowed down to him without taking any set.
Kashyap gave credit of victory to his better fitness.
He stated, “I expected to win but not that easily. Not that it was an easy game - we had some long rallies and when Minh gets into his rhythm he can be very dangerous. I trained really hard for this competition and I think I won because of my fitness levels.”
While talking about his rival, Kashyap added, “Once he gets two or three points in a row he's very dangerous, so I really tried to keep it to two points only. If he gets five or six he can run away with the game.”
The passionate Indian worked really well from the starting points of opening set and controlled the rallies with impressive craft.
The lower ranked Indian shuttler was in full swing in his contest against Tien Minh and he easily clinched the opening game with a stunning 21-9 score on the board.
The impressive Kashyap continued putting up sterling performance in the following game and spared no chance for his Vietnamese rival to catch up the difference.
The Indian ended the second game in a commanding manner as he restricted his rival at 21-14.
Kashyap registered a phenomenal victory over Tien Minh with a striking 21-9 and 21-14 margin on the score board.
