Indonesia’s top player Simon Santoso stretched his winning run in Men’s Singles Group B when he slaughtered Austria’s Michael Lahnsteiner in a tremendous fashion at the London Olympics 2012 at Wembley Arena, London, on Tuesday, July 31.
The ninth seeded Santoso, who is currently positioned at number six in Men’s Singles world rankings, displayed his top quality craft and easily ousted his lower ranked Austrian opponent without spending much time on court.
The in-form Santoso commanded the pace of rallies throughout the battle without facing any considerable resistance from Lahnsteiner and easily knocked out him in straight sets by putting up a staggering figure on score board.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Austrian shuttler failed to match the highly elevated skills and incredible speed of his Indonesian rival on court and easily crashed out without making his presence felt.
The Indonesian shuttler was the heavy favourite as he was better in all aspects of the game as compared to his Austrian challenger and he lived up to the expectations by remaining ahead on score board from the opening points.
The impressive Santoso was on a different level on court as he maintained a considerable distance on score board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the ninth seeded Santoso remained on track without losing his focus as he played complete badminton and tested all of his shots from all areas.
The higher ranked Santoso sailed smoothly in the ending half of opening set and easily finished it up with a tremendous 21-11 score on the board.
In the following game, Lahnsteiner almost gave up fighting against the mighty Indonesian shuttler as he could not take the bird early and also showed signs of fatigue.
On the contrary, Santoso remained calm and focused on court and he easily took a tremendous lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Santoso remained positive and played controlled badminton all the way to end up the set with a stunning 21-7 score on the board.
The impressive Santoso easily won the battle in straight sets with a crushing 21-11 and 21-7 score on the board.
