London Olympics 2012: Tan Boon Heong determined to put up strong show in Men’s Doubles semi-final
Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles player Tan Boon Heong is quite determined that he, with his partner Koo Kien Keat, will live up to the expectations in the semi-final clash against the higher ranked Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng of China at the London Olympics 2012, which
is in progress at Wembley Arena, in London.
The in-form Boon Heong and Kien Keat, who are currently World Number Eight in Men’s Doubles category, defied all odds to secure a berth in semi-final as they have displayed spectacular performance in their previous matches.
The Malaysian shuttlers are underdogs at the top-four stage as they will be facing the World Number Two and top seeds Yun and Haifeng who are also in tremendous form at the moment.
However, Boon Heong is confident that the Malaysian duo will put in everything to win the match considering that there will be no pressure on them as they are lower ranked and un-seeded shuttlers in the semi-final.
Boon Heong stated, “We will be the underdogs this time around and really there is no pressure on us at all.”
He further added, “We have nothing to lose so will be relaxed on court. It's a matter of playing the right tactics and cutting down on mistakes.”
While talking about their prospects in the semi-final clash against the experienced Chinese opponents, Boon Heong expressed that they will do their best and the real motivation for them is that they are just one match away from winning a medal.
He expressed, “One step away from a medal and that's motivation for us.”
Boon Heong and Kien Keat, who have been a reason of major concern for the Badminton Association of Malaysia for a period of over two years because of their poor performance, suddenly got their rhythm back at the right time and are now one of the potential
title contenders at London Olympics.
Despite the fact that Malaysia shuttlers do not have an impressive head-to-head record against the Chinese duo, Boon Heong and Kien Keat are determined to change the things around this time as they have really got a golden chance to reach into their first
Olympic final.
