London Olympics: Bodin Issara, Maneepong Jongjit stun Mohammad Ahsan, Bona Septano in opening match
The first big upset of London Olympics was seen in group stages when Men’s Doubles team Bodin Issara-Maneepong Jongjit stamped Mohammad Ahsan-Bona Septano in opening match on July 28, 2012.
This Group B encounter prolonged to just two games as the spirited Thai duo registered their class in Wembley Arena and claimed victory with 21-11 and 21-16 margin.
Mohammad Ahsan and Bona Septano, who are frontrunners in the race for an Olympic medal, failed to revive their lost chemistry and received a severe blow straight away in the beginning of their campaign.
Meanwhile, Bodin and Maneepong forged a fruitful chemistry and grabbed all the attentions by overpowering the World Number six duo.
They started the beating from the very first game and kept hammering their rivals all the way to final moments of the battle.
In the opening game of the match, they set the ball rolling by gathering four consecutive points after 3-2 and maintained this momentum until mid-game break.
The Thai couple did not lose focus at any stage in the first half and placed an indomitable total of 11-5 before interval.
After one-minute break, they mounted pressure by prevailing in three uninterrupted rallies which ultimately helped them to raise their lead to 15-7.
Though, the twosome of Ahsan and Bona strived hard to narrow the gap but they could not come out of this deficit and gave up this futile chase after reading 11-21 score on the board.
The prime Indonesian duo failed to end this bad patch in the second set of match as they crashed out in a disgraceful manner.
They had a horrendous start which haunted them in the beginning of the following game and they failed to make amends in this crucial segment.
On the other hand, Bodin and Maneepong made best out of their early advantage and transformed it into a splendid 2-0 win.
They stepped forward at steady pace and left their competitors far behind with a mountainous total of 11-6 before half time.
Though, the opposing team showed some spark in later part of the game but it was not enough to burn down the Thai campaigners who locked the victory with 21-16 margin.
