London Olympics: Chen Long easily shows exit to Peter Hoeg Gade in Men’s Singles quarter-final
China’s Chen Long showed a wonderful performance in Men’s Singles quarter-final battle and easily showed exit to Denmark’s veteran player Peter Hoeg Gade at the London Olympics 2012 on Thursday, August 2, in England.
The spirited Long, who is World Number Three and third seeded shuttler in the tournament, put up staggering performance and easily overpowered the World Number Five Gade in a smashing manner.
The higher ranked Chinese shuttler was at his best as he remained dominant on the board all the way in the battle and easily won the contest in straight games with a superb score on the board.
On the other hand, Peter Gade could not make his last Olympic outing impressive as he failed to put up strong show against his aggressive Chinese opponent and crashed out without taking any set.
From the opening points, both shuttlers played at their best speed and remained in complete control of rallies.
The score was close at the initial stage but Long started to build lead by playing aggressive badminton and managed a reasonable lead until the break.
After the interval, the Chinese shuttler continued his attacking play without showing any mercy to his rival and eventually won the first game with a 21-16 score on the board.
In the second game, Long was everywhere on court as he did not let his Danish rival to show a strong resistance at any stage and remained successful in taking a wonderful lead until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Peter Gade tried to put in extra effort but he failed to narrow the gap as his opponent was fast in taking the bird from all areas.
The in-form Long raced away in the concluding phase of second set and remained successful in ending up the game with a killing margin of 21-13.
The Chinese shuttler sent Peter Gade packing by finishing off the match in straight sets with a 21-16 and 21-13 score on the board.
In the semi-final showdown, the spirited Long will take on Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei who is the top seeded player in Men’s Singles category in the mega event.
