London Olympics: Derek Wong tames Misha Zilberman in Men’s Singles Group I battle
Singapore’s talented player Derek Wong proved his supremacy on court when he played remarkable badminton in Men’s Singles Group I contest and tamed Israel’s Misha Zilberman at the 2012 London Olympics in England, on Sunday, July 29.
The in-form Derek put up staggering performance as he was in full control of rallies and he easily overpowered Zilberman in a completely commanding fashion.
The in-form Singaporean was on a different level while playing against Zilberman as he showed no sign of mercy to his opponent and crushed him in a dominating fashion with a remarkable margin in straight sets.
Zilberman, on the other hand, could not tackle the aggression of his opponent as he failed to put up strong defence on court and eventually became a prey to Derek in straight sets with a humiliating margin on the score board.
It was a completely lopsided battle as Derek started his run in a dominating manner by playing to his maximum potential on court and remained successful in grabbing a strong position on score board at the early stage.
The impressive Singaporean shuttler was in tremendous form as he did not miss any chance to stretch his lead and established a wonderful gap until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Derek remained positive and consistent on score board without losing his focus. His powerful smashes destroyed the defence of Zilberman.
The aggressive Derek managed to take lead in the match by winning the first game with a tremendous 21-9 score on the board.
In the following set, it was Zilberman who showed a good resistance in opening rallies as he played attacking badminton but failed to stop his rival from taking over the control.
Derek gradually occupied the driving seat and took a reasonable lead on score board until the 60-second break in second set.
After the interval, the Singaporean player became incredible aggressive and he stretched his lead by playing positive and fast badminton and took the set with a superb score of 21-15.
The in-form Derek ousted Zilberman in straight games by putting up a 21-9 and 21-15 margin on the score board.
