London Olympics: Indian team heated up on the trespasser at the opening ceremony – Tennis News
Indian squad remonstrated to the organizers of the Olympic ceremony regarding a mysterious intruder who walked with them during the opening ceremony on July 27th.
The reports stated that women, whose origin is not known dressed in red top and blue pants marched gleefully alongside the Indian team flag bearer, Sushil Kumar. The woman was not a part of the team; hence, it is case of
interruption and disrespect for the Indian team.
The Indian chief-de-mission Muralidharan Raja stopped the intruder and wanted to make it a security case on the London Olympics organisers, as the women was not wearing the customary identification badge.
“She had no business being there. It was a clear case of intrusion”, in a press conference with the media Raja said, “We don't know who she is and why she was allowed to walk in. It is a shame that she was walking with our
athletes. I can't say that (if it was a security breach) as she was in a sanitised zone, but this was bizarre”.
The Indian made it a great deal for the organisers, “We will ask for an apology. She embarrassed us in front of the world. The Indian contingent was shown (on television) for just 10 seconds, and to think this lady hogged
all the limelight.”
The Indian team has chosen their biggest 81-member squad for the London Olympics. The team has great hopes to beat their Beijing Olympics scores this year.
Earlier before the commencement of the Olympic tournament, the Indian Tennis Association had to face a tough time by the hands of the fifth seeded pair in the double category, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna. The AITA asked
Bhupathi to pair up with the Indian number one, Leander Paes this season. The pair was the Olympics favourite and considered to bring home a medal.
Bhupathi and Bopanna are the fifth seed in the doubles category. They will be facing strong competition at the hands of the Swiss team, defending their gold medal this season. Meanwhile, Paes is coupled with Vishnu Vardhan
in the men’s doubles.
In the mixed doubles matches, Bhupathi replaced with Paes and he will be playing with Sania Mirza. The new pair will do wonders this time for India and bring home a second medal. The couple has achieved a bronze medal in
the year 2002, followed by a gold medal at 2006 Doha Asian Games. The draws for the doubles will unveil on July 31st and the tournament will begin from August 1st.
