London Olympics: Jae Sung, Yong Dae outshine Kien Keat, Boon Heong in final group stage encounter
Korea’s Jung Jae Sung-Lee Yong Dae served notice of supremacy against Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong and entered in quarter-finals of London Olympics as group winner on July 31, 2012.
This Men’s Doubles tussle, held at Wembley Arena, was the final encounter of Group D which was resolved in just two games with concluding figures of 21-16 and 21-11.
The World Number one pair Jae Sung-Yong Dae, who also is second seeded team of the event, started the beating from the very first game and kept smacking their rivals down until the decider.
On the other hand, the prime Malaysian duo could not rise from the dust throughout this battle and surrendered after going down in both sets.
However, this loss did not harm them much as they already have earned the honour to be in the quarter-final round of the mega event.
This showdown was the 15th meeting between both teams and the Koreans proved themselves superior by registering their 13th victory.
They set the ball rolling immediately in the first set and established an unassailable lead with couple of nonstop rallies in the beginning.
This early advantage put their challengers under huge pressure and they could not lift this burden throughout the first half.
World Number eight duo Kien Keat-Boon Heong failed to revive their chemistry and allowed the opposing team to place a respectable total of 11 points before the interval.
Though, they gathered couple of valuable points after mid-game break but it was not enough to cover five-point deficit in 21-16 score.
The twosome of Jae Sung and Yong Dae dazzled the Malaysians with a lustrous performance also in the following game.
They established their grip over game by dominating in opening rallies and did not lose the upper hand until game point situation.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong did not have any reply to their masterly crafted strokes as they remained busy just in returning these.
Meanwhile, the Koreans continued their progress at top gear and widened the gap with some consecutive rallies.
They maintained an unconquerable lead of ten points and secured a berth in round of eight with an overwhelming margin of 21-11.
