London Olympics: Kyung Eun, Ha Na prove their mettle in group stage of Women’s Doubles event
Korea’s Jung Kyung Eun-Kim Ha Na played flawless badminton and stunned top seeded Wang Xiaoli-Yu Yang in group match of London Olympics at Wembley Arena on July 31, 2012.
This Group A encounter lasted for just two games before ending with final result of 21-14 and 21-11.
The World Number eight pair Kyung Eun-Ha Na performed exceedingly well and sealed a splendid straight-set win to setup a quarter-final clash with Meiliana Jauhari-Greysia Polii of Indonesia.
However, this setback did not harm the Chinese campaigners as they already have earned the right to be in round of eight of the mega event.
The Koreans started the ball rolling in very first game when they prevailed in opening rallies. They capitalised this initial advantage and doubled the impact by adding valuable points in their total at a steady pace.
On the other hand, Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang proved themselves lazy as they could not pick the bird early and dropped many vital points due to their sluggishness.
World Number one pair was certainly not at its best as there were many opportunities to bounce back into contest but both partners squandered those chances and lost the first half.
Their bad patch continued also in second half as they failed to match their rivals’ speed on court and trailed behind all the way to game point situation.
The twosome of Kyung Eun and Ha Na manipulated every loop-hole and served notice of their supremacy with 21-14 score on the board.
They carried this momentum also in second set of the match and outclassed their superior challengers in even more impressive manner.
Meanwhile, the Chinese campaigners could not come out of their competitors’ influence throughout this crucial game and surrendered tamely.
First sign of trouble came when Wang Xiaoli-Yu Yang lost few consecutive points in the beginning but then some unforced errors turned in to a final blow to them and they never came back.
The Koreans bagged first half with an indomitable total of 11 and then blew away the opposing team by establishing an overwhelming lead of ten points. They emerged as victors with a winning margin of 21-11.
