London Olympics: Lee Chong Wei all set for an avenging victory against Lin Dan in title match
Malaysia’s badminton king Lee Chong Wei is all set to end his country’s gold medal drought as he vowed to go all out against Chinese maestro Lin Dan in title match of the London Olympics.
This epic battle will be staged at Wembley Arena on August 5, 2012 and badminton world is eagerly waiting for this clash of titans.
Chong Wei and Lin Dan, mostly referred to as arch-rivals, have faced each other 29 times and their last meeting was 2012 All England Open final where Lee Chong Wei conceded a walk over due to an ankle injury.
This setback kept the Malaysian ace away from the court for a considerable period of time. He started his full training just two weeks ago in Bath and his hard work has paid off in the mega event.
The World Number two Chong Wei looked ecstatic after securing a spot in the grand finale of London Games as he stated that he is relieved after matching his performance of 2008 Beijing Olympics.
He said, "I have made the final and the feeling of relief is immense. The pressure I felt was unbelievable as I wanted desperately to make the final."
In previous edition of Olympics, Chong Wei narrowly missed a gold medal as he knelt down in front of Lin Dan in the title match.
However, he is in high spirits to seal an avenging victory this year as he vowed to fetch his country’s first gold medal by utilising all of his brilliance and experience in the game.
He said, "I am going to fight as hard as I can to win Malaysia's first gold medal at the Olympics. I went into the semi-finals with the thought that it was the final. Now it is the real final."
Meanwhile, the coaching team has started planning for this crucial encounter as Rashid Sidek briefed that they are giving all the attentions to Chong Wei and hoped that he will not let them down in this crucial contest.
He said, "We must now focus on preparing Chong Wei for the final. He has to end Malaysia's wait for Olympic gold."
Moreover, the badminton guru Tey Seu Bock also echoed his colleague’s views and hoped that the maestro will execute the strategy as he did against another Chinese campaigner Chen Long in the semi-finals.
