London Olympics: Mathias Boe – Carsten Mogensen stretch their winning run to land a title berth
Denmark’s best player Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen delivered a sensational performance as they landed a title berth after defeating Korea’s Chung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae in the Men’s Doubles semi-final battle at the London Olympics 2012 on Saturday,
August 4, in London.
The World Number Three Boe and Mogensen, who remained impressive throughout the tournament, showed their aggression in the semi-final against the World Number One Jae Sung and Yong Dae and overpowered them in a nail biting contest.
The lower ranked Danish shuttlers lost the opening set but found their way back into the match by taking the second game. They played remarkable badminton in the final set and won this epic match in three games with a tight margin.
On the contrary, Jae Sung and Yong Dae played tremendous badminton throughout the semi-final battle as they remained aggressive all the way. However, they remained unlucky in the end as Yong Dae made a wrong judgment and it was all over as the Danish shuttlers
won the match.
In the first game, the Korean shuttlers remained dominant in most part of the game and they took a reasonable lead until the mid-game break.
After the one-minute interval, Boe and Mogensen tried their level best to reduce the deficit on score board but failed to manage it and lost the first game to their Korean rivals with a decent 17-21 margin on the board.
In the following set, Jae Sung and Yong Dae again played wonderful badminton and did not let their Danish opponents to take control of rallies. Until the break, the score again remained close as both sides were at their best.
After the break, Boe and Mogensen played positive badminton and pushed their Korean opponents on back foot.
The Danish duo played superb game in the ending phase of second set and finished it off with a tight margin of 21-18.
In the final set, both sides progressed while remaining neck-to-neck on score board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Boe and Mogensen showed their brilliance and took a reasonable lead which was later on covered by the Korean players.
The score remained tight and the Danish shuttlers reached at 21-20 when Yong Dae made a wrong judgement on the side line as the bird landed in.
Boe and Mogensen ended up the set with a 22-20 margin on the score board.
The lower ranked Danish duo emerged victorious with a breath-taking margin of 17-21, 21-18 and 22-20.
