London Olympics Men Basketball: Team USA to have a complete day off on Wednesday – NBA Update
Prior to handing out the biggest thrashing of this year’s Olympics to Tunisia, team USA officials had decided to give the team a much needed a break.
According to team representatives, USA management had decided to give the team a day off on Wednesday, a decision made well before the start of the game, in which the Americans romped to a 47 point win.
The Americans have worked hard for the Olympics and ever since the first day of the training camp at Las Vegas, the team hasn’t had the opportunity of taking a day off.
With the results of all that preparation now showing, this is a welcome break and according to Carmelo Anthony, it could not have come at a more right time.
“h**l yeah, yeah,” Anthony said. “We’re still going to be around each other in the hotel or whatever sightseeing or other [Olympic] events we might get into. We’ve been going since Vegas non-stop and putting in a lot of work. I
think [Wednesday], we definitely need that day.”
The Americans will take on Nigeria on Thursday and the prospect of another relatively lightweight might well be the reason Mike Krzyzewski and company decided to give their team a layoff.
In the last game against Tunisia, USA had a shaky start and they actually trailed till deep into the first quarter. However, they grouped together after that and the Tunisians just could match the speed and the athleticism of their
opponents.
The Americans shot above 60 percent from the floor and also connected on 40 percent of their shots from the long range. After a relatively slow first half, Krzyzewski brought on his reserve lineup early in the second half and they
literally tore apart whatever resistance the African nation tried to show.
LeBron James, who was a mere spectator for most of the game, praised his second unit after the game and also welcomed the break,
“It took us a little bit to get warmed up and the second group did a great job and we were able to finish the deal. We got better today and now we get a little break tomorrow and get ready for the next one.”
