London Olympics: Nguyen Tien Minh survives scare against Yuhan Tan at Men’s Singles Group Stage
Vietnam’s ace shuttler Nguyen Tien Minh, who has been displaying sterling performance for the last couple of years, found a tough start as he had to dig into his arsenal to overpower Belgium’s Yuhan Tan in Group D match at the 2012 London Olympics in England, on Sunday, July 29.
The World Number 11 Tien Minh, who is 10th seeded player in Men’s Singles main draw of the championship, struggled really hard on court and managed to find a good flow at the right time and won the battle after a hard fight.
The higher ranked Tien Minh failed to play dominating badminton and lost the first game to his un-seeded opponent.
However, the Vietnamese shuttler made a timely comeback by accelerating his speed on court and eventually remained successful to avoid a dreadful defeat by ending up the match in three games with a decent score on the board.
On the other hand, Yuhan also played impressive badminton as he did not let his rival to get strong position and took the first game. However, he failed to show up his tremendous play in the following games and lost the match in rubber sets with a reasonable margin.
In the opening game, Tien Minh remained quivering on court as he made a few unforced mistakes at the early stage and failed to set up a comfortable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Tien Minh tried his best but failed to overpower his Belgian rival and eventually lost the set with a decent difference of 17-21.
However, the 10th seeded Tien Minh showed his class in the following set when he put up thrashing show of attacking badminton and remained successful in winning the set with a wonderful margin of 21-14.
In the deciding set, Tien Minh was everywhere on court as he played composed and positive badminton and remained ahead on score board in opening half.
The Vietnamese shuttler remained consistent after the break and easily ended up the game with a huge difference of 21-10.
Tien Minh emerged as the winner in this interesting Men’s Singles battle with an entertaining 17-21, 21-14 and 21-10 score on the board.
