China’s best female player Wang Yihan showed an elevated performance on court and reached into Women’s Singles final after ending up India’s Saina Nehwal’s winning run at the semi-final stage at the London Olympics 2012 on Friday, August 3, in London.
The World Number One Yihan, who is also top seed in Women’s Singles main draw of Olympics, played dominating badminton throughout the battle and easily stamped her mark over her fourth seeded Indian opponent.
The higher ranked Chinese shuttler showed a solid performance as she dictated the pace of rallies for a major part of the match and overwhelmed Saina in straight games with a wonderful margin.
On the other hand, the World Number Five Saina failed to play her normal game in opening set and lost it easily. However, she showed a good performance in the opening half of second game but again lost her focus and eventually lost the match with a big margin
on the board.
The opening set was lopsided when Yihan dominated the pace from opening points and showed her determination to win the match as she took an early lead.
In the meanwhile, Saina was tensed on court as she failed to play her normal game and remained struggling far behind on score board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Chinese shuttler continued her positive and commanding run on court without showing any sign of pressure and easily wrapped up the opening game in a dominating manner with a 21-13 score on the board.
In the following set, Saina played good badminton and remained positive on court this time as she showed wonderful aggression.
Yihan, on the other hand, could not manage a reasonable lead on score board as she failed to push her rival on back foot.
Until the mid-game break, it was Saina this time who took a small lead on score board.
After the break, Yihan paced up the rallies while playing to her maximum potential and stunned Saina by ending up the second game with a tremendous 21-13 score on the board.
The top seeded Yihan remained successful in winning the semi-final battle in a smashing manner with a comfortable margin of 21-13 and 21-13.
