London Olympics have made Ana Ivanovic excited – Tennis News
Ana Ivanovic is excited that she will be representing her country at this year’s London Olympics and then Rogers Cup straight after that.
Ivanovic missed Beijing Olympics in 2008 due to injury and was really disappointed because of that. The Serbian also stated that she hopes of getting a good run at the biggest sports event of the world and also the grass court
swing.
She said, “I’m very very excited. It was one of the toughest points of my career when I had to pull out of the 2008 Olympics because of my injury. I really hope I can go far. Obviously it’s going to be a long season and on grass
too. But I hope I can go far and hopefully bring a medal for my country.”
Along the singles event, Ivanovic is also expected to participate in the mixed doubles event with compatriot, Nenad Zimonjic, at the London Olympics.
She is also waiting for the Rogers Cup in Montreal, where she won the title in 2006 and stormed to the top of the tennis world. The Serbian is loved by the Canadian people and has been always crowd’s favourite at that event.
Ivanovic added, “Montreal has always been a very special tournament for me. I’m looking forward to coming back and playing again. It’s a tough schedule after the Olympics but I’m very excited. It’s pretty amazing. It’s always nice
to have the support.”
Although, the Serbian is not in a good form, as she has failed to reach even any title match in this season. The 24-year-old gave her best performance at the BNP Paribas Open, where she lost to the then world number two, Maria
Sharapova of Russia, in the semi-finals.
Ivanovic did not have a good clay court season either, losing to Mona Barthel in the opening round at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. She was beaten by Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka in straight sets 4-6, 4-6 in the round of 16 at the
Mutua Madrid Open.
Playing her third event on clay courts, Ivanovic was beaten by Sharapova in straight sets 6-7(4), 3-6 in the third round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. The Serbian gave a poor performance at the second Grand Slam of the season,
losing to Sara Errani of Italy, 6-1, 5-7, 3-6 in the round of 32 of French Open.
Instead of participating at any WTA Tour event this week, Ivanovic is getting training from her coach to prepare for Wimbledon Championships.
