London Taxi's?

Hi, I am doing some research on London taxi's. Can someone tell me if they have changed vehicles from that old 4 cyl. diesel they used forever? I had heard they have change to something cleaner for the air? Also, have London taxi's always been black? or did there use different colors???

Judging by the tests that the Public Carriage Office carry out, any fuel will do as they have procedures for petrol, diesel and LPG engines.

Previously (according to the London Vintage Taxi Association), they could be any colour, and with attached advertising today, they sometimes are again. See the final paragraph of the lvta web page referenced below.
