Is it only possible to buy one online? The website doesn't seem to be very clear on that.

  1. hi you can buy them at tube stations, a lot of the shops sell them you have to pay £3 pound to get them registered but make sure you top up with at least £5 after u have initially got the card as when you first use it it will take the £3 off the card,, i know from experience

  2. Oyster cards can be bought from most newsagents and from underground (tube) stations.

  3. That's just one way of getting an Oyster card. You can get an Oyster card on the spot at Tube station ticket offices, Oyster Ticket Stops (certain newsagents), London Travel Information Centres, London Overground station ticket offices and some National Rail ticket offices.

You'll have to pay a £3 deposit for the Oyster card if you're only adding cash to it to use it as 'Pay as you go' (no deposit if adding a 7 Day travelcard or longer season ticket) and you can return the card at a Tube station ticket office to get the £3 deposit back. (You'll need to show the receipt you were given when you got the Oyster card, so keep it safe!)

    Edit:

    - The £3 is a refundable deposit, not a registration fee. Registration is only compulsory if you want to have a monthly or longer season ticket on the card.

    - A fixed fee of £3 will not automatically be deducted from your balance when you first use your Oyster card. There's no such thing. If you're using Oyster card as 'Pay as you go', when you touch out at the end of your first journey (and every other journey thereafter) on the Tube, DLR or Oyster-enabled National Rail stations (or when you touch in on buses and trams), the system will deduct the appropriate fare from your Oyster card balance. The amount that is deducted for your journey could be anything from £1.00 to £5.50, depending on the zones you travelled through and whether it was a peak or off-peak journey. Once you reach the Oyster daily price capping limit, all further journeys you make that day will be free of charge.

  4. underground and newsagents sell them
